One of the most frequently asked questions that I receive from my clients is “Should I provide transportation or a shuttle service for my wedding?” Since I receive this so often, I figured I would share my advice for everyone to benefit from!!
There are typically 3 cases where I would suggest that transportation be provided for wedding guest:
- Heavy Drinkers: You know your guests better than I do. If you think that guests will drink alcohol and would be a danger to themselves and others on the road, DON’T LET THEM DRINK AND DRIVE. Providing transportation will give you the peace of mind that all of your loved ones are getting home safely at the end of the night!
- Limited Parking, Ubers, or a Difficult Drive: Sometimes wedding venues are located in areas that prove to be difficult to locate or drive to (ex. on top of a mountain with steep, windy roads). Additionally, large guest counts have the potential to outnumber the parking spots if there is a limited amount of space for parking. In both cases, I would consider providing transportation for guests to ensure that everyone arrives to your ceremony on time and logistics aren’t the hold up for start of your event.
- Out of Town Guests: If a majority of guests are traveling far distances to be at your wedding, it is nice to offer transportation for them. A few reasons include the fact that they have already traveled a great distance for your wedding, they are unfamiliar with the area, and many are probably staying in the same hotel!
There is no “right” or “wrong” answer as to if you should provide transportation for your wedding day so don’t feel like you HAVE to! Sometimes it is just an unnecessary expense where that money could be spent somewhere else! However, if you fall into one or more of the categories listed above, I would highly consider reaching out to a local transportation service for your big day!
